An NDIS planning meeting is where you talk through your situation and goals so your plan can be built around them. The more clearly you can describe your daily life and what you want to achieve, the better your plan will fit.
Before the meeting
- Think about a typical day and where you need help, from morning to night.
- Write down your goals, big and small, for the next year and beyond.
- Gather reports from doctors, therapists or specialists that describe your needs.
- Note any supports that already work well, and any gaps.
- Decide who you want with you: a family member, carer, advocate or support coordinator.
Talking about your goals
Goals do not have to be grand. They can be practical: cook three meals a week independently, get to a weekly social group, travel to appointments on my own, keep my home clean and safe. Concrete goals make it easier to justify the support you need.
Describe your needs on a hard day, not a good day
People often understate how much help they need because they describe a good day. Be honest about the difficult days too. The plan needs to cover you when things are hard, not only when they are going well.
What to bring
- Photo ID and your NDIS or contact details.
- Medical and therapy reports.
- Your written goals and a list of current supports.
- Questions you want answered.
After the meeting
When your plan arrives, read it carefully and check it reflects what you discussed. If something is missing or unclear, you can ask for a review. Then choose providers and put the plan into action.
