The NDIS, in brief
The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is Australia's national scheme for people with permanent and significant disability. It gives funding directly to eligible people so they can access support that helps them live well and reach their goals.
For families who have recently arrived in Australia, or who feel more comfortable in Arabic, the NDIS can feel like a lot of new words and steps. You are allowed to ask for information in your language, and you are allowed to bring someone you trust to help.
Your language rights
- You can ask for a free interpreter when dealing with the NDIS.
- You can choose a provider with Arabic-speaking staff, like AFT Care.
- You can bring a family member, friend or advocate to meetings.
Getting started
- Check if you are eligible for the NDIS.
- Apply for access, with help if you need it.
- Attend a planning meeting and talk about your goals.
- Choose providers to deliver your support.
