Getting Started

How to choose an NDIS provider

The right provider can make your plan work. The wrong one can waste it. Here is how to choose well.

Once you have an approved plan, you get to choose who delivers your support. It is one of the most important decisions you will make, so it is worth taking your time.

Questions worth asking

  • Are you a registered NDIS provider, and what services are you registered for?
  • How do you match support workers to participants?
  • Will I see the same workers regularly, or different people each time?
  • What happens if a worker is sick or we are not the right fit?
  • How do you handle feedback and complaints?
  • Can you support my language and cultural needs?

Signs of a good provider

  • They listen first and ask about your goals before talking about services.
  • They are clear about pricing and how your funding is used.
  • They offer consistent, familiar workers, not a revolving door.
  • They respect your choices, your culture and your privacy.
  • They are easy to reach and quick to respond.

Red flags to watch for

  • Vague answers about cost or what is covered.
  • Pressure to sign quickly or to commit to long lock-in periods.
  • No clear process for raising concerns.
  • Support that feels one-size-fits-all rather than built around you.

Registered vs unregistered

A registered provider has been assessed against the NDIS Practice Standards and is overseen by the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission. If your plan is NDIA-managed, you must use registered providers. Even when you have a choice, registration is a useful signal of accountability.

Trust your gut. A provider can tick every box on paper and still not feel right. How they treat you in that first conversation tells you a lot.
